Summer Pricing becomes even easier to participate in for customers who are also signed up for the SmartAC program:
Newly enrolled participants receive bill protection for their first full summer on SmartRate. With automatic bill protection you will not pay more on the new pricing plan than you would pay under your previous plan.
Here's how automatic bill protection works. Each month, you will pay your PG&E energy costs as you normally would. At the end of the SmartRate Summer Pricing period PG&E will evaluate your monthly costs to determine your total electricity costs on the Plan. If your cumulative SmartRate costs over the summer are more than they would have been on your previous pricing plan, we will automatically reimburse the difference with a credit on your November energy statement.
After you have completed your first full summer season, bill protection will no longer apply. You will receive two notifications before your bill protection expires:
You can opt out of the new pricing plan at any time and revert to your previous pricing plan by calling 1-866-743-0263.
As an added incentive for customers to enroll and continue on the SmartRate summer pricing plan, PG&E is offering a $25 Visa prepaid card. Customers who enroll on May 1 through September 30, and stay enrolled in the plan through October 31, will receive a $25 Visa prepaid card. Customers should allow 4-6 weeks after the program end to receive their card.
Residential energy charges are calculated by using your previous pricing plan with the following SmartRate Summer Pricing adjustments:
As a result of a law passed during the energy crisis of 2001, PG&E can only charge a specific rate for your energy usage in the first and second tiers. By choosing this new rate plan, you agree to accept higher electric rates than stated by this law on up to 15 days during the summer months due to the surcharges on SmartDays. As a result, your summer bills could be higher than under that law. If your bills are higher during your first full summer of participation, PG&E will automatically reimburse you the difference in November of that year.
You also have the potential to save money each month if you can lower your electricity usage between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on SmartDays.
Your November billing statement will include a comparison of your Summer Pricing Plan usage and what your rate would have been under your previous pricing plan. You may want to review this information before making a decision about opting out of SmartRate. You may opt out of the new pricing plan at any time and revert to your previous pricing plan by calling 1-866-743-0263.
Note: after cancelling enrollment, you may not enroll in SmartRate for 12 months.
