Trees growing near power lines can be a dangerous combination.
Our Vegetation Management Department spends $168 million each year to establish a planned and consistent pruning cycle. We have an annual inspection cycle to identify hazardous trees and those in need of pruning. To improve efficiency, we inspect entire lengths of line at one time, rather than moving from location to location. By achieving greater clearances at the time of prune, we reduce the number of prunings and the structural stresses imposed on the tree. PG&E uses separate contractors for inspection and pruning as a way to check and balance our work and promote competitive costs.
