PeakChoice™—Program Details and Eligibility

PeakChoice is PG&E's most flexible demand response program. It makes controlling your business contribution to energy reliability easy and flexible—and delivers bigger benefits than ever before.

With voluntary participation in PeakChoice, you'll earn financial rewards along with community accolades. Plus, you'll enjoy the peace of mind that goes with knowing your business and others are helping to avoid possible power interruptions and the need to build new power plants.

Flexibility Like Never Before

PeakChoice lets you decide how much (or how little) power reduction your company is comfortable contributing, how much advance notice you need and more. It puts you in control to determine the best way for your company to be involved based on your business and customer needs.

Participation Levels—Choose from two levels of participation. PeakChoice Committed and PeakChoice Best Effort.

Advance Notice—Decide how much "advance" time your company needs in order to reduce consumption. Choose from two days, one day, four hours or 30 minutes. The choice is yours.

Reduction Size—Determine the amount of electrical reduction you can accommodate. Our team can help you identify ways to reduce your demand.

Timing—Select between weekdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. or 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Total Days—Select the total number of days you are able to participate.

PeakChoice lets you customize a demand response program to fit your business needs. You can compare and choose from two plans: - PeakChoice Committed and PeakChoice Best Effort.

PeakChoice Program Qualifications

To qualify for PeakChoice, your company must meet the following requirements

  • Currently a bundled commercial, industrial or agricultural customer
  • Billed on an electric demand time-of-use rate schedule (Schedules AG-R, AG-V, standby and net metering customers are not eligible)
  • Able to curtail at least 10 kilowatts (kW) of demand
  • Have access to the Internet with an email address
  • Not currently participating in another demand response program, except for PG&E's Optional Binding Mandatory Curtailment (OBMC) or the Pilot OBMC program
  • Currently, PG&E Direct Access customers are not eligible to participate in PeakChoice

Equipment Requirements

To participate in PeakChoice, your facility must have an electric interval meter that can be read remotely by PG&E.

  • If you are a bundled customer with demand greater than 200 kW and you don't have an electric interval meter that can be read remotely by PG&E, we will install one at no cost to you. You must, however, meet the minimum program requirements and agree to remain in the program for at least one full year.
  • If your demand is less than 200 kW, you are eligible for PeakChoice, but you will need to pay for the cost and installation of an interval meter.
