The information in this map is intended only to provide customers with a general estimate regarding potential locations that may be impacted by a PSPS event should one become necessary. Conditions affecting a possible PSPS event can change quickly and the actual impact of a future PSPS event is uncertain.

Sunday, March 2, 2025

NOTE: This forecast is based on weather conditions and fuel moisture content only. It does not include other criteria used to determine whether a PSPS may be necessary. This forecast only provides a broad overview for a potential PSPS event in the next 7 days. It is determined from an analysis of forecast weather, the potential for wind-related damage, and fuel moisture content in dead and live vegetation. It is not a fire danger forecast. The forecast is broken down by county. PSPS decisions are made at more granular levels. Only a portion of a county may experience a PSPS event. While a PSPS event may not be expected for an area, due to the interconnectivity of the grid any location within PG&E territory may be subject to PSPS event.

No Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events are planned for the next week. Low pressure is noted spinning over the Sacramento Valley with scattered showers rotating around the center.  A much cooler, showery and breezy to locally gusty day is on tap for the territory as the weather system moves slowly to the east.  Snow will fall at elevations generally above 4000-5000 feet and accumulations up to several inches or more are possible, especially in the Sierra.  Across lower elevations, rainfall totals will generally range in the 0.25-0.75” range however in heavier showers/thunderstorms amounts may be higher.  Brisk to locally gusty west to northwest winds in the 10-20 mph range with gusts to over 35 mph will prevail today before diminishing this evening/overnight.  Cold air accompanying this weather system will keep highs 10-15 degrees below normal with many locations only realizing maximum temperatures in the 50s.  Cool weather will continue tomorrow with isolated showers/mountain snow showers in the morning before a brief dry period of weather arrives in the afternoon, continuing through tomorrow night. The next weather system is expected to arrive later Tuesday, spreading more rain and mountain snow across the territory Tuesday night and Wednesday.  Temperatures for the upcoming week will remain below normal for early March with 50s to lower 60s prevailing; some milder readings can be expected by later in the week before additional weather systems bring more chances for wet, unsettled and cool weather next weekend. Fuels: New growth of the annual grass crop is occurring for many areas in the central and northern part of the territory. However, live fuel moisture values will remain seasonably low as brush is in winter dormancy. Dead fuel moisture values are trending drier but remain wetter than normal across most of the territory. The latest 4 Month Seasonal Outlook from Northern Operations Predictive Services is forecasting normal fire activity from March through June. Southern Operations Predictive Services is forecasting near normal fire activity for the South Coast area in March and April and above normal fire activity May and June due to drier than normal fuels. There are 0 of 788 circuits in High Fire Risk Areas (HFRA) that are EPSS-enabled today. The remaining 788 circuits in HFRA will have devices postured in normal settings due to low FPI ratings. Additionally, 0 EPSS Buffer-only circuits are enabled today.
