Backup power support

The rebate is $300 per qualified customer. If you participate in PG&E's CARE or FERA programs, you may receive an additional $200.

Program eligibility

To qualify, you must satisfy the following:

  • Rebates are limited to one per household. Applications must be submitted within 12 months from the purchase date or by December 31, 2025, whichever date is sooner.
  • Customer must provide proof of purchase and proof of delivery. The application cannot be submitted until the product has been delivered and received.

Product eligibility

To qualify, the product must meet the following requirement:

 

Portable Generators

 

Portable Batteries

  • Cannot be greater than 1 kWh (1,000 Wh)
  • Cannot be less than 290 Wh

AND

 

  • Generator or Portable Battery cannot fall under any of the following exclusions:
    • Resale, rebuilt, refurbished, open-box, rented, or leased for less than five years
    • Batteries received from warranty or insurance claims, exchanged, or won as a prize
    • Those with new parts installed in existing battery or discounted by PG&E at the point of sale
    • USB power stations, USB power banks, power inverters, non-integrated battery, car batteries, and commercial power stations

Seamless Transition to Power

The generator you purchased may be compatible with PG&E’s Backup Power Transfer Meter Program (BPTM) for an almost seamless transition to switch power from the grid to your generator in the event of an outage.

Be aware that not all generators found on the Generator and Battery Rebate Program are compatible with the Backup Power Transfer Meter Program and not all generators found on the Backup Power Transfer Meter webpage are eligible for the Generator and Battery Rebate Program.
