No. Work must be done by the ESA Whole Home-approved provider. This helps ensure quality and maximizes energy savings.

CLEAResult will request documentation confirming your home meets ESA Whole Home eligibility. This information will be handled confidentially. Information may include:

  • Number of people living in your home
  • Total household income or documented participation in public assistance program(s)
  • Year your home was built
  • Model and make of your appliances
  • Home conditions related to energy-saving upgrades

  • For a more complete list of information required, submit an interest form.

You may be asked to sign an authorization form, which allows PG&E to check energy use in your home after the work is complete. This is to confirm the customer is receiving the intended energy savings.

The ESA Whole Home provider can help customers find other, more suitable programs.

Customers are encouraged to explore alternatives offered by PG&E or other companies.

An authorized representative from the ESA Whole Home program must conduct a thorough review of your home’s energy systems to determine if your home qualifies for the program. First, the assessment will determine where you are using the most energy. Second, the assessment will help CLEAResult determine what upgrades are feasible within your home.

The process can be somewhat lengthy due to the thoroughness of the assessment. We recommend you set aside 3-4 hours for the initial visit. Some follow-up visits may be necessary to properly assess feasibility, take measurements, etc.

The assessor will cover the whole home, including:

  • Air conditioning
  • Heating
  • Water heating
  • Appliances
  • Interior and exterior walls and windows
  • Attic
  • PG&E utility meters
  • And more!

The assessors will utilize tools such as ladders and measurement instruments during the assessment.

Assessors may document their observations with photographs or forms. This information will be handled confidentially.

We take your safety and the safety of program representatives very seriously. Before your home assessment, please:

  • Set aside 3-4 hours for the program representative to complete the assessment.
  • Clear and store objects away from key entry points to:
    • Attics, basements and electric panels
    • Water heaters
    • HVAC access points and air vents
  • Secure all pets. We will not be able to complete the assessment if a pet is roaming freely.
  • Ensure that children are carefully supervised.
  • For testing purposes, there can be no fire in the fireplace (wood, gas, pellet) within 24 hours of the appointment.
  • Prepare any questions you may have for the program representative.

Yes! If you completed an ESA Whole Home installation project, we want to hear from you. A customer survey will be administered by an authorized third party, Demand Side Analytics (DSA). Customers will receive an email invitation from admin@pgeenergysurvey.com, with an offer to receive a gift card after completing the online survey.
